When her 3-year-old son drowns in a friend’s backyard pool, Chezik Tsunoda, who also directed the film, goes on a heartbreaking but, ultimately, healing journey to connect with parents who have experienced similar tragedies. Searching for answers, she finds hope in the work of other parents and activists to make a difference in this preventable tragedy.
In the course of her investigations, Tsunoda is shocked to discover that these drownings occur on an all too regular basis, devastating families and ruining lives. But she also finds an informal network of parents and activists who are taking action to change the culture when it comes to water safety. These tragedies are not “accidents” but preventable situations that can be greatly reduced through vigilance, training and effective legislation. Drowning in Silence is the inspiring story of how people, even in the midst of their deepest sorrow, can come together to make a positive change in the lives of others.
