Emily is the epitome of a modern-day student: sharp as nails, determined to make it in the world, and saddled with crippling student debt. Desperate, she takes on a job that’s too-good-to-be true, and finds herself at the doorstep of the criminal underworld.
Emily (Aubrey Plaza, in a brilliant performance) can’t find work–her art degree isn’t opening doors, and a minor criminal record slams shut the few that open. When told by Youcef (Theo Rossi) that she can be a “dummy shopper”, buying TVs - a credit card scheme for easy money - she jumps. Part psychological portrait, part crime thriller, this is a unique modern-day parable. “[A]n entertaining and sharp-edged look at the world in which so many millennials find themselves.” –Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
