Mimmi and Rönkkö are inseparable. Mimmi is short-tempered and always ready for a battle; Rönkkö is intelligent and fun-loving; and they almost literally couldn’t live without one another. Being teenagers, both are working hard to understand themselves, their sexuality, and exactly where they fit in, in Alli Haapasalo’s charming film.

Working after school at a smoothie stand in the local mall, and bursting with energetic conversation, the besties are trying to navigate their swiftly moving world. Mimmi is suddenly smitten with Emma, a competitive figure skater, while Rönkkö is chasing boys but awkward when it comes to intimacy. Uninhibited, sharp as a razor, witty and ultimately bittersweet, Girl Picture is a joy through-and-through, a testament to the power of friendship, conversation, and especially girl power. “Haapasalo's addition to the young adult canon is remarkably fresh, queer and a lovable account of adolescence.” –Emily Maskell, Little White Lies
