1981 and electronic music is all the rage. Jeróme is a DJ and Philippe, his shy brother, engineers their radio show. When the latter gets called up to military service in West Berlin, he worries that he’s missing out on big opportunities in Vincent Maël Cardona’s brilliant period music film.
The brothers have a hugely popular show on pirate radio in Brittany, Jeróme being the voice (and face) and Phillippe using his considerable talents to engineer and create stunning dance remixes of the top hits of the day. His older brother is dating Marianne, whom Phillippe secretly loves… and who may feel likewise. It’s a stunning moment in European political and musical history, and when Phillippe is called to military duty, he worries that he’s going to miss earth-shaking events, not to mention incredible shows. Boasting an incredible soundtrack and winning performances, Magnetic Beats (Les magnétiques) is a joy to behold.
