One of director John Ford’s notable characters, a cynical newsman, once said, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” In today’s world of fake news, it is increasingly difficult to separate fact from fiction when influential pundits and the media get involved and muddy the waters or sway public opinion. The Judgement is a thriller based on real events surrounding the notorious Deventer murder case in the Netherlands. It’s inspired by a book by Dutch TV investigative reporter Bas Haan who fights for the real facts to come to light when an innocent person suffers a trial-by-media that practically destroys his life and that of his partner. This compelling drama follows the intrepid Haan as he challenges the judicial system, the media and prevailing opinion in his attempt to uncover the truth. Winner, Best Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress and Adapted Screenplay, Seattle; Best Film, Best Screenplay, Golden Calf Awards.
