Description

14+ YA drama

Naima, a daring and determined Blangladeshi teenager, is on a quest to earn money to support her family. Naima paints community floors, walls, and her father’s rickshaws in the traditional folk style, reflecting her vivid imagination with gorgeous bright and bold colors. But her artistic talents aren’t economically valued enough to help when her father falls ill. Naima sets out to the big city of Dhaka, where she learns to survive in the streets. Finding opportunities wherever and however she can, Naima is undaunted by the sexist rules prohibiting girls from working as rickshaw pullers and sneaks into the difficult job disguised as a boy. Based on the beloved young adult novel by Mitali Perkins and directed by acclaimed Bangladeshi director, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, Rickshaw Girl is a classical tale of a girl’s fight for independence and visibility, with powerful performances by young actors and Naima’s magical painting throughout the film.
