Description

Age 10+, family drama

When divorce disrupts her after school routine, ten-year-old Romy is stuck going to the hair salon to be cared for by Stine, her reluctant grandmother. Just as she is getting used to Stine’s idiosyncratic ways, Romy starts to observe slips in her behavior. Their dynamics forever change with the unmistakable signs of oncoming dementia. Romy realizes that she is going to have to take care of Stine and the salon, and not the other way around. For a time, they are each exactly what the other needs, until together Romy and Stine steal a chance to recover a fading memory. Young actress Vita Heijem is captivating as a girl discovering a new side of her grandmother. This award-winning family film from the Netherlands handles intergenerational relationships with tenderness, humor, and candor, illuminating the valuable connections between children and elders and the inescapable nature of Alzheimer’s disease.
