Age 11+ coming of age drama
Melién is literally too cool for school. The 15-year-old girl has an infectious talent for drawing illustrations. Her endless stories are fed by her nonstop imagination and encouragement from her generous grandfather, who owns a fantasy book shop. Fascinated by goth and ghosts, preferring monsters to mean girls, Melién has no time for her classmates, popularity, or any of the mundane nonsense of school. In fact, a group project is her biggest nightmare! But when Melién’s drawings leap out of the pages of her sketchbook, she begins to see the merits of having a few mortals along for the ride. This charming teen ghost story from Argentina contains animation and a clever ‘film within a film’ made by the kids. It is also a fun tale of staying true to yourself, overcoming insecurities, and finding friends, even as ‘the strangest girl in the world’. Winner, Audience Award, Seattle Children’s Film Festival.
