MSPIFF41 Opening Presentation
Mark Rylance, Sally Hawkins, and Rhys Ifan star, and offer stellar performances in this British biographical comedy drama inspired by the true story of Maurice Flitcroft, whose unrelenting optimism gained him entry into the 1976 British Open–despite never having played a round of golf. A delightful ‘comfy slice of cinema’ ‘with bite and soul.’
Maurice, a humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness secures his spot only to shoot the worst round in Open history, drawing the ire of the golfing elite, but becoming a folk hero in the process and, more importantly, showing his family, including his twin disco-dancing sons, the importance of pursuing your dreams.
