Description

Jay Craven’s independent narrative feature film, “Jack London’s Martin Eden”. The picture was completely filmed on Nantucket where more than 100 people played various crucial roles, from Producer India Blake, construction coordinator Jacques Zimicki and caterers Joy and Greg Margolis to one of the film’s co-stars, Roan LaScola who plays Martin Eden’s niece, Alice. Other key Nantucket players include actors Susan McGinnis, Vince Veilleux, Jack Bulger, Sarah Fraunfelder, Jordan Delphos, Sean Lee, Grady Gund (voice) and more than seventy featured extras.

“Jack London’s Martin Eden” received its world premiere in a special screening at the Nantucket Film Festival and has won Best Film and Best Director awards at the Boston Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Arlington International Film Festival.

The film is based on Jack London’s autobiographical novel.  Set in 1909, it tells the story of a poor and unschooled sailor who unexpectedly meets Ruth Morse, a magnetic young woman of means and education. Their unconventional attraction upends both lives and propels timely themes of impossible love, dogged individualism in pursuit of the American Dream, and the quest for a comfortable place in an inconstant world.

*This screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Jay Craven.
