She’s a dreamer, perhaps a bit naïve, taking surreptitious photos of couples in and around Barcelona for an art project, getting the bills paid through a call center job and cautiously navigating the treacherous world of online dating. When twenty something French expat Raphi (Raphaëlle Perez) is diagnosed with gender dysphoria after an intrusive, embarrassing battery of questions, she’s pressured to strongly consider gender reassignment surgery--or run the risk of living as an object of fetishization. But for Raphi, the question of such an irreversible change to her sense of self isn’t an easy one. Faced with a three-year waiting list, the highs and lows of finding a boyfriend and the wildly differing opinions of even her closest friends, Raphi comes to realize that her quest is elegantly simple if daunting: to not be devoured by the world but to find her place in it. When a theater director offers her a chance to create a play based on her own life, Raphi must summon every bit of courage she can to speak her truth, a sensitive soul stepping out on an emotional ledge in director Adrián Silvestre’s absorbing follow-up to his acclaimed 2021 documentary Sediments, and the recent winner of the of the Maguey Award at FICG 2022 and the Outfest Grand Jury Special Mention Award for Performance in an International Feature.
Ella es una soñadora, quizá hasta ingenua, que toma fotos surrealistas de parejas para un proyecto de arte en Barcelona y sus alrededores, se gana la vida trabajando en un centro de llamadas y navega el complicado mundo de las citas en línea. Cuando Raphi (Raphaëlle Pérez), una expatriada francesa en sus veintitantos años, es diagnosticada con disforia de género tras una serie de interrogantes embarazosas e intrusivas, por lo que se siente forzada a considerar una cirugía de afirmación de género versus el riesgo de vivir como un objeto de los fetiches. Para Raphi, no es fácil la disyuntiva de un cambio tan irreversible de su propio ser. Se enfrenta a una lista de espera de tres años para la cirugía, los altos y bajos de encontrar un novio, sumado a las múltiples opiniones de sus amistades más cercanas.
