Welcome to the MSP Film Society’s Cinema Club - it’s like a book club but for cinephiles. Watch a selected movie with us at The Main Cinema and join a discussion led by a member of our film team, a critic, or a subject expert. Be ready to share your unique perspective on what we screen with other members and attendees. Cinema Club movie selections will range from sneak previews, to awards contenders, to classics, movies that’ll have you talking.

About Women Talking

Based on the best-selling novel by Miriam Toews, Women Talking follows a group of women in an isolated religious colony as they struggle to reconcile their faith with a series of sexual assaults committed by the colony's men.


Cinema Club Moderator: Megan Feeney
Megan Feeney, Ph.D. has taught film studies at the University of Minnesota and Saint Olaf College, and is the author of Hollywood in Havana: U.S. Cinema and Revolutionary Nationalism in Cuba before 1959 (University of Chicago Press, 2019). She currently contributes to Cineaste, a quarterly film journal out of New York City. 

Guest Speaker: Professor Elaine Tyler May
Professor Elaine Tyler May is Regents Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Minnesota. A leader for decades in the field of U.S. women's history, her work centers on the intersections of gender, sexuality, domestic culture and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries, emphasizing the inextricable links between the private and public spheres.
