20 Days in Mariupol is the work of a team of Associated Press photographers, who cataloged the ferocious bombing of this Ukrainian city and its effect on the civilian population. “[A] salute to the enduring resilience of a people who refuse to surrender their home.” –Allan Hunter, Screen Daily
Journalist Mstyslav Chernov and a team of AP reporters were in Mariupol on the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, determined to capture what they knew would be a harrowing attack. Remaining in the city for 20 days while bombs fell, which routinely targeted the civilians that the Russians claimed were safe, this team of brave photojournalists put a face to this war, now over one year old. In 20 Days in Mariupol, Chernov also agonizes over the ethics of gathering such footage. A shocking, compelling documentary that demands to be seen.
This film contains scenes of war and death and may not be suitable for all audiences.
