Oscar-nominated director Maite Alberdi (The Mole Agent) returns to MSPIFF with this compassionate story of Augusto and Paulina, a loving, elderly couple struggling with Alzheimer’s.
Augusto and Paulina have been in love for almost three decades. But eight years ago, Augusto, one of Chile’s most beloved television presenters, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. As a historian who made it his goal to catalog Pinochet’s reign of terror, ensuring that the dictator’s crimes were never forgotten. Using these skills, Augusto seeks to capture as many of his fleeting memories as possible with the help of his beloved Paulina. Director Maite Alberdi was able to witness this couple’s heartbreaking efforts, and her film, The Eternal Memory, is at once a wrenching look at the ravages of this disease, and a touching story of true love.
