Description

This stunning visual portrait of Mexico’s indigenous communities fighting against modernization has no interviews or dialogue, just rich black-and-white cinematography and revealing close-ups.

Filmmaker Helmut Dosantos explores Mexico’s salt pans, deserts, highlands, jungles, and underground mines with carefully staged scenes of men and women laboring, from the country’s northern, southern and western regions. These moments, created with input from the subjects, are powerful reminders of the people who endure these conditions, only to be set aside as the world modernizes and threatens to leave them behind. “In its calculated and careful filming and editing, this documentary speaks to the fascinating nature of the human experience.” –Zaki Lawrence, Vox
