Description

Lawrence not only loves movies, he dreams of becoming a great film director just like his idols. But he hasn’t got any money, he’s losing friends with his obsession and vanity, and life just keeps pressing down on him.

Lawrence (Isaiah Lehtinen) is a high school senior from suburban Toronto in the early 2000s, struggling to get by in life with a widowed mother who doesn’t understand him. However, his future is bright, at least in his mind–he’s going to attend NYU to learn filmmaking and become a huge success. But he can’t afford tuition, hasn’t got the grades, and life just seems to throw him one curve after another. When he’s alienated by his equally lonely best friend, Matt (Percy Hynes White), it becomes apparent that our hero needs more than just the people on screen, he needs to be present in real life. Based on director Chandler Levack’s own life, I Like Movies is a genuine crowd pleaser that won over audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival. “A film that is small but not slight, sweet but not cloying, and the kind of thing that can make even a cynical critic like movies again.” –Katie Rife, IndieWire
