Description

In an allegorically cinematic world divided among three classes–Leads, Supporting Characters, and Outtakes–Paula dreams of being a Lead, where her life may literally have color for a change. But as her eyes open to the injustice of this world, will Paula fight back and risk being an Outtake?

In a metaworld of cinematic dystopia, Paula has a grayish, drab existence with her single mother, both of them Supporting Characters. But Paula has dreams–of having her own storyline, full color, a sweeping score, just like her spoiled best friend, Hannah, and her father, who went missing years ago, both of whom are Leads. Paula goes to the School for Main Characters, is at the top of her class but is having difficulty mastering Emotion. Trying to get in touch with her feelings, she wanders to the world of the Outtakes, untouchables in this cinema land, and in summoning up genuine feelings, Paula may also be threatening her own success by actually starting to care. Sophie Linnenbaum’s inventive first feature debuted at Filmfest München.
