When Iris’ father, Jan, decides that he is through with life and wants to end it all, the young woman must face life’s ultimate absurdity in Floor van der Meulen’s wonderfully dry but very moving comedy.
Jan, 74, suddenly announces to his two children, Iris and Ivan, that he will commit suicide after his 75th birthday party. As the deadline looms over the family, Iris struggles to come to terms with her father’s heartfelt decision, while her brother seems perfectly content with the plan. As the day draws nearer, Iris’s various failed attempts to intervene slowly brings her closer to understanding. Pink Moon is a disarming and yet lovely comedy/drama filled with people you will come to love. Starring Julia Akkerman, “who boasts a Buster Keaton-esque blank face in which any emotion can stumble across.” –Stephen Saito, The Movable Feast
