A MAN CALLED GOD is a truly unique documentary that started filming over thirty years ago in 1980 by a father and son filmmaking team. Emmy award-winning Producer, Writer, Actor, Kristoff St. John (The Young and the Restless) joined his father Blaxpoitation Icon, Christopher St John to tell the truth about the tragic spiritual journey they took as a family. Along with Mom, British actress Maria St. John, they left the luxury of Los Angeles, California for a remote village in Southern India to search for God in the form of a living Avatar. With a fan base of 50 million people worldwide, Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was one of India’s most prolific gurus performing modern day miracles, healing the sick and diseased and materializing solid objects out of the air. Award winning cinematographer Baird Bard accompanied the family with his 16mm camera filming the family as they participate in the spiritual daily ‘Ashram’ routines and are slowly swallowed up by Sai Baba and his cult. Lies, secrecy, sexual deviancy and even murder are soon revealed tearing the family apart. -JM
