New 4K Restoration! 40th Anniversary Screening!
David Cronenberg's "techno-surrealist" masterpiece turns 40 and, to celebrate, Neon Dreams is presenting a brand new restoration of this genre-busting mind scrambler in its glorious uncut form.
A chilling and thoroughly unflattering vision of the future (or present—depending on how you look at it), Videodrome takes us through an apocalyptic vision of Toronto, ON where an unscrupulous television programmer (James Woods) stumbles upon a mysterious broadcast of ultra-violent content and is immediately inspired to monetize it. This leads him on a hallucinatory journey and into a world of sadomasochism, body horror, and new wave legend Debbie Harry (in one of her first film roles).
Baffling audiences across the globe in 1983, Videodrome was nearly impossible to categorize upon its release and remains just as confounding today. Featuring morbidly beautiful makeup effects by Rick Baker and outlandish images of sex and violence that have lost none of their impact, Videodrome has continued to grow more pertinent with age and secure its legacy as one of the most provocative films of the '80s. LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH! (BRENDAN ROSS)
