Description

60th Anniversary Screening!

The iconic chiller of psychological terrors!

Based on Shirley Jackson’s acclaimed 1959 novel The Haunting at Hill House, considered one of the best literary ghost stories of the 20th century, the unsettling original 1963 suspense film is a big screen must-see!

In The Haunting, an investigator of paranormal phenomena assembles a group of people to prove whether or not a remote New England mansion is haunted. Through clever lighting, widescreen compositions and sound mix the house itself becomes the central character of the story, in which acclaimed ensemble deliver outstanding performances that cemented its classic gothic status (Martin Scorsese once put it at #1 on his list of best horror films). The low-budget movie also put queerness front and centre: psychic Theodora (Claire Bloom) is among the first explicitly lesbian characters in cinema — in a wardrobe by mod pioneer Mary Quant.
