In February 1974, singer-songwriter Tom Jobim, one of the creators of Bossa Nova and Elis Regina, Brazil's most popular singer at the time met in Los Angeles, to record an album. Elis brought her band, who joined Tom Jobim and the best musicians in LA. This encounter would change their lives, the course of their careers, and give birth to the most iconic album in the history of Brazilian music. Through rare and never-before-seen images, Elis and Tom – It Had to Be with You directed by Roberto de Oliveira tells the story of how this encounter and the recording of these two giant artists happened. This musical documentary reveals the conflict and joy of this unique meeting, illuminating the intimacy –– and often, the difficulties –– of their creative process. Elis and Tom are once again young, beautiful, exuding talent and movingly timeless. Winner of the Critics' Award for Best Brazilian Film at the 2022 Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo.
