On May 31,1986, John Heyn and Jeff Krulik filmed Judas Priest fans in a concert arena parking lot in suburban Maryland. 35+ years later, Heavy Metal Parking Lot is hailed as one the greatest rock documentaries ever – a definitive cultural touchstone for the 1980s metal scene: spandex, big hair, denim, mullets, muscle cars, beer, and a joint so big it fits across America.
But the eternally curious duo of Krulik & Heyn have documented tons of equally fascinating interviews and cultural oddities on camera – from conversations with the creators of TV’s Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp (the spy show with real monkey actors and ape band, the Evolution Revolution!), to the unassuming Library of Congress clerk with the largest porn collection, to the equally fascinating (and equally ecstatic) crowd in the parking lot outside a Neil Diamond concert.
