Happy new year, darlings!!!
This January, ring in another HAGGY NEW YEAR with Dumpster Raccoon Cinema as we celebrate one of the greatest films ever made, camp masterpiece SUNSET BLVD (1950)!!!!
Down-and-out Hollywood writer Joseph Gillis is out of luck and out of time – until a fateful getaway maneuver puts him on Sunset Boulevard and in the dilapidated mansion of famed star of yesteryear, NORMA DESMOND As the aging diva of the silent era masterminds her glorious, demented return to the silver screen, Mr Gillis begins hatching a plot of his own….
Undoubtedly one of the greatest films ever made and a climactic work in the film noir genre, SUNSET BLVD (1950) is nevertheless also a glittering gem in the camp classic crown - stuffed full of over-the-top acting and breathlessly audacious directorial choices, crammed with stunt-cast actors playing overblown versions of themselves and amounting to a gleeful thumb in the eye of Hollywood at the height of its megalomaniacal power orchestrated by one of its greatest living artists (“He’s ruined himself,” one executive lamented at the premiere).
Dumpster Raccoon Cinema thus returns both to its new year hagsploitation tradition (following last year’s WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE and MOMMIE DEAREST diptych) AND director Billy Wilder (who directed our SOLD OUT screening of SOME LIKE IT HOT this Pride summer!) with this bombastic, beloved treasure of the film noir repertoire. See it for the first time or for the hundredth with us as we ring in the new year as only Norma Desmond can!!!
With video preshow, host Anthony Oliveira, live drag performance, and cocktails by the Shameful Tiki Room!
