This Easter weekend, join DUMPSTER RACCOON CINEMA as it celebrates the launch of programmer Anthony Oliveira’s new book DAYSPRING with a special singalong/open stage extravaganza screening of Norman Jewison’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (1973)!!

Hot on the heels of its concept album release, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR was rocketed to cinemas by Canadian auteur Norman Jewison. With shocking high notes, spellbindingly tender performances, and its weird mixture of the ancient in modern, the film is a production that ranks among the greatest and most innovative of movie musicals. Shot in the deserts surrounding Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and the Palestinian West Bank on a shoestring guerilla style with a busload of hippies, the film is a time capsule of late sixties Jesus Movement zeal and one of the pinnacles of the recently passed Jewison’s astonishing career.

This event will include a cavalcade of special guests including writer KAI CHENG THOM, a discussion and Q&A with author Anthony Oliveira, live drag performance, cocktails by the Shameful Tiki Room, and live open stage performances by YOU!!
