Description

"Iconic Serbian Black-Wave director Dušan Makavejev's most accessible attempt at mainstream filmmaking, The Coca-Cola Kid has often been referred to as an Australian Local Hero (1982). A young American Coca-Cola executive travels to the company's Australian offices to boost sales and representation of the product nationwide. Through a series of odd, charming, funny and at times frightening interactions with an eccentric cast of characters, the executive finds himself discovering more than he bargained for; both about the strange land in which he is a stranger and, most importantly, about himself. With subtly beautiful cinematography and a dynamite soundtrack from Split Enz's Tim Finn, The Coca-Cola Kid is a rare and unique example of the kind of distinct movie magic Australian-centred cinema has to offer." - EMMA

An eccentric marketing guru visits a Coca-Cola subsidiary in Australia to try and increase market penetration. He finds zero penetration in a valley owned by an old man who makes his own soft drinks, and visits the valley to see why. After "the Kid's" persistence is tested he's given a tour of the man's plant, and they begin talking of a joint venture. Things get more complicated when the Coca-Cola man begins falling in love with his temporary secretary, who seems to have connections to the valley.
