Cary Grant stars in the Michael Curtiz-directed fictionalized biography of Cole Porter, the great American popular songwriter who wrote "You're the Top," "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Begin the Beguine," and "Night and Day." Coming home to Indiana from Yale University, Porter (Grant) is bitten by the songwriting bug and writes his first musical, which plays for one day before the U.S. enters World War I. Although he could have used his standing in society to avoid serving, Porter enlists. After the Armistice, Porter finds fame and fortune, if not marital happiness, writing music for Broadway. But at the height of his success, he is crippled in a polo accident and begins a heroic battle to regain the use of his legs. Mary Martin and Jane Wyman also star and perform in the musical numbers.
