Description

Mvskoke Media is the free press of the Muscogee Nation, the fourth largest Native American tribe in the country. That is, until 2018, when the tribal government repeals laws to protect the free press, in an effort to silence criticism.

With its own sovereignty, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation doesn’t have to abide by the first amendment–the tribe has existed with a law called the Free Press Act that allows their newspaper, Mvskoke Media, to function without interference. But when proud muckraking journalist Angel Ellis reports on embezzlement that reaches to the highest rungs of power, including the tribe’s president, all bets are off. Incensed by this flagrant act of suppression, Angel and a group of freedom-loving members launch a campaign to have a constitutional amendment to protect the press. Rebecca Landsberry-Baker and Joe Peeler’s riveting documentary is as enraging as it is an edge-of-your-seat thriller.
