The films are hot, but the Revue’s AC will be cranked for the ten films in this summer’s Heat Wave lineup.

Heat Wave at the Revue Cinema, a lineup of the greatest summer movies ever made, continues on July 24th with the 25th anniversary of the summer thriller, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY with an introduction by Paid In Sweat curator, Vanya Garraway!

25th Anniversary Screening!

In a late-1950s summer, a young and talented Impostor Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) is sent from New York to Italy by the father of rich, handsome and galivanting Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) to collect him and return him to the responsibilities of home. Upon meeting Dickie, Tom befriends him and his inner circle (Gwenyth Paltrow and Philip Seymour Hoffman), and the task becomes a suspenseful challenge.

Are you ready for the heat? The dream of a late-1950s summer with all the beauty of caramel-tinted light?  Are you prepared for the bright, brilliant and breezy sartorial fits with hot people in them? From one of the fieriest years in cinematic history, and from the curation of the program that brings you the sweatiest series at Revue—Paid in Sweat—this year’s contribution to the annual Heatwave series is 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley.

It’s magic hour on a piazza in Italy. Jude Law’s bearing and preppy threads invoke Rossano Brazzi in Summertime (1955). A gregarious Philip Seymour Hoffman zips up in a speedy and scorching little red convertible. Matt Damon’s Ripley trying to find his sea legs, and a bikini clad Gwyneth Paltrow sail on sapphire blue waters—it is the dog days captured perfectly on film.

The Talented Mr. Ripley is a lifestyle fantasy with the pledge of a boundless summer. Consider this a celebration of its decadence (between the murders, that is) in its twenty-fifth year. Your best refreshing and retro fits are encouraged, especially shades, as looking at Law is like looking directly into the sun. Ciao! (VANYA GARRAWAY)
