Nostalgic yet timeless, Stand By Me is an iconic Stephen King adaptation that has captured the hearts of movie lovers for decades. Starring a veritable who’s who of young Hollywood stars, including a fifteen-year-old River Phoenix as the wise, and world-weary Chris and Wil Wheaton as his best friend Gordie, it accurately captures the triumphs and tribulations of that blink, or you’ll miss it moment between childhood and adulthood. And while it’s certainly heartfelt, Stand By Me is also deeply frightening and hilariously depraved (see: the pie-eating contest and corporeal leeches sequences) — you know, just like growing up.
