Description

A young Englishman (John Kerr) travels to Spain and the castle of his brother-in-law (Vincent Price) to investigate his sister's (Barbara Steele) mysterious death. There, he encounters conflicting stories about what happened and a sinister torture chamber presided over by the son of a notorious agent of the Spanish Inquisition. This film was written by Richard Matheson (I Am Legend, The Twilight Zone TV series, What Dreams May Come), based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story of the same name.

"A highly effective merging of star power (both in front and behind the camera) and finely honed horror sensibilities." —Kim Newman, Empire

"Corman at his intoxicating best, drawing a seductive mesh of sexual motifs from Poe's story through a fine Richard Matheson script." —Time Out

The Pit and the Pendulum and The Little Shop of Horrors screen as a tribute to B-movie legend and pioneering producer Roger Corman (1926 - 2024).
