Author Thomas Maier, a longtime Newsday investigative
reporter, talks about how his acclaimed books were made into premium television
series. Starting July 16, Maier's book MAFIA SPIES becomes a
brand-new Paramount+ six-part documentary series, which tells how the CIA hired
two top gangsters to kill Cuba's leader Fidel Castro during the Cold War.
This Paramount true-crime spy thriller, which will also be seen on Showtime,
features Maier and other historians and journalists talking about the worlds of
the Mafia, Sinatra's Rat Pack in Las Vegas, JFK's assassination, and CIA
espionage in Cuba and Florida. Maier is an on-commentator and producer for MAFIA
SPIES, which features three clips from "The Godfather" saga
as well. Previously as an author and a producer, Maier's Emmy-winning MASTERS
OF SEX drama ran for four seasons on Showtime, starring Michael
Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Jeremy Strong, Allison Janney and Annaleigh
Ashford. With a new novel published July 9, Maier also incorporates his
Hollywood experiences in MONTAUK TO MANHATTAN, a murder mystery
about a reporter whose historical novel is being made into a TV show in
Montauk. Maier will show excerpts from his TV programs, including the pilot
episode from MAFIA SPIES, and will be available to sign copies of
his books which will be on sale.
