Ease on down the yellow brick road with superstars Diana Ross and Michael Jackson! Relive all of the magic of this beloved musical when Dorothy is whisked away to the enchanting wonderland of Oz, where she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion. The Wiz features spectacular musical numbers from legendary producer Quincy Jones and an all-star cast including Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell and Ted Ross.
In 1978, while The Wiz was in development, Michael Jackson and his brothers transitioned from Motown to Epic Records. Rob Cohen, leading Motown Productions, saw Jackson as the ideal Scarecrow and convinced Berry Gordy. Initially skeptical, director Sidney Lumet and Quincy Jones changed their minds after meeting the 19-year-old Jackson in New York. Jackson committed fully to the role, studying animal movements and enduring extensive prosthetic makeup sessions. During filming, Jackson sought Quincy Jones' advice for a solo album producer. Impressed by Jackson's talent and dedication, Jones agreed to produce what would become Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987).
