Description

PRESENTED ON 35MM!

Neon Dreams once again morphs into Neon Nightmares for our annual October screening, and this year we are celebrating Canadian treasure David Cronenberg's 1986 remake of The Fly. A film that is somehow both his most commercially accessible and idiosyncratic. At once, Cronenberg's The Fly is an old-fashioned creature feature, a hard sci-fi, a mind-melting body horror, a gut-wrenching romance, and a scathing pro-choice allegory.

Brilliant, eccentric, and weirdly sexy scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) is on the brink of unlocking his greatest invention to date—a pair of "telepods" that makes instant teleportation possible. When he offers scientific journalist Veronica "Ronnie" Quaife (Gena Davis) exclusive rights to his story, they both get more than she bargained for when Brundle makes one fatal error in his experiment and thus introduces the world to "Brundlefly".

Shot on location in Toronto, ON, The Fly doubles as a stunning time capsule tour through landmarks such as Kensington Market, Liberty Village, Yonge St, and the AGO. It also boasts some of the most impressively grotesque creature effects (care of Chris Walas) that still remain unparalleled today. So buckle up for a film that truly does it all. Laugh, cry, and wince the night away for a film that guarantees you will never under any circumstances want to arm wrestle anyone on Yonge St ever again.

This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite.
