Description

10 th Anniversary screening of the landmark modular synth documentary + special live performance by Aida Khorsandi!

I Dream Of Wires is a documentary about the rise, fall and rebirth of a machine that
shaped electronic music: the modular synthesizer. Over 100 inventors, musicians and
enthusiasts are interviewed about their relationship with the modular synthesizer - from
its development in the 1960s with pioneering companies Moog and Buchla, and early
adopters like Morton Subotnick and Herb Deutsch, to electronic pioneers like Gary
Numan and Daniel Miller discussing the modular synthesizer's 1970s heyday, through
to its near-extinction in the 1980s, while established musicians including Trent Reznor
(Nine Inch Nails) and Vince Clarke (Erasure) talk about their ongoing passion for the
instrument, to dance and electronica artists like Carl Craig and James Holden who have
stepped away from laptops to embrace the sound and physicality of modular
synthesizers.

Dream Of Wires also outlines the history of electronic music as a whole, from its very
beginnings at the dawn of the electric age. The film provides a fascinating look at how
technology has shaped the electronic music landscape. Featuring electronic music
legends: Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Gary Numan, Morton Subotnick, Vince Clarke
(Erasure), Cevin Key (Skinny Puppy) and dozens of others.

About the performer:
Eyeduh Kho is a composer-performer, sound synthesist, researcher and
educator. Aida’s philosophy to musicking is based on experimentation, welcoming
chaos and randomness, unlearning and decolonizing hierarchies and ear training in
musical practices and sounds. In her sonic workflow, Aida uses displaced sound
objects, repetitive, erratic, and granular sonic and physical gestures to create an ever-
shifting sonic scene of ambient noise.
