Description

40th Anniversary Screening!

This Galentine's Day, We Really Like Her! co-hosts Emily and Danita invite you and your bestie to get into the groove with a 40th anniversary screening of Susan Seidelman's hit screwball dramedy Desperately Seeking Susan!

Starring the one and only Madonna as the elusive title character, Desperately Seeking Susan is a perfect encapsulation of the mid-80s, both in terms of fashion and identity politics. After hitting her head while stalking a fashionable stranger from the personal ads, shy, yet curious yuppie Roberta (Rosanna Arquette) finds herself on a wild goose chase of mistaken identities, missed connections and misplaced accessories. Will she ever meet the woman who inspired her to step out of her comfort zone, or be doomed to pay for her grave mistakes?

Although its zany plot may sound similar to Martin Scorsese's After Hours (which came out the same year and also co-stars Arquette), Desperately Seeking Susan was a much bigger hit with audiences and with good reason. Following in the footsteps of Seidelman's daring debut Smithereens and setting the stage for the criminally underrated She-Devil, this film is destined to win you over with its mix of counterculture, pop music and vintage style.
