25th Anniversary Screening!
This March, HOLD UP host Alice Rose is bringing you a night of Spring Break vibes with a 25th Anniversary screening of Todd Phillips' breakout college adventure movie ROAD TRIP.
When Josh (Breckin Meyer) mistakenly mails his girlfriend an illicit sex tape, he and three friends embark on a cross-country road trip to recover it. With non-stop misadventures and zany pit stops along the way, ROAD TRIP is a testament to the lengths a college kid will go to get away with cheating on his girlfriend.
While it is one of many bro-comedies of the era (many of them also directed by Todd Phillips), ROAD TRIP stands out in its thoughtful treatment of the conventional teen exploitation format. With a self-awareness that highlights the stereotypes and tropes of the genre, while also delivering gross-out gags and slapstick laughs, and the accomplishment of almost successfully scripting Tom Green, ROAD TRIP is a college film that stands above the rest.
