This special screening of HAMBRE will be followed by an in-person post-film discussion with writer/director Joanna Nelson!
Amid the Venezuelan exodus, two young adults on opposite paths meet at a crossroads. Roberto, convinced that his country needs him, works for the Caracas Metro and is determined to stay. Selina, yearning for escape, lives in Italy looking for a way to leave her Venezuelan passport behind. When Roberto gets a job offer abroad and Selina gets trapped in Venezuela during Christmas vacation, they must decide... stay behind or migrate?
HAMBRE is an important and timely film on the current Venezuelan crisis and is directed by Joanna Cristina Nelson based upon personal experiences: “I needed to capture what triggered millions of Venezuelans to migrate, to abandon their country and why they couldn’t take it anymore.”
