Celebrating 130 years of cinema — on a day like today, December 28, 1895.
From The Great Pyramids in Egypt to The Great Wall of China, from Los Angeles to Hiroshima, directors throughout the world took part in a unique celebration of cinema. To commemorate the 130th anniversary of the Lumière Brothers' first "motion picture," David Lynch, Spike Lee, Wim Wenders, Zhang Yimou, John Boorman and a host of leading international filmmakers created their own one minute Lumière Film. Using the restored original camera, each director offered his own signature style to the film. These exciting eclectic shorts are combined with intriguing interviews with the filmmakers. A must for all movie fans, Lumière and Company speaks for the loving tribute, passion, beauty, and visionary dream of this 130-year-old art form.
