Susan Stroman - the incomparable five time Tony winning Broadway
director and choreographer, known as just “Stro” to theater
insiders and friends - has graciously agreed to present Cinema Arts Centre
audiences with a smorgasbord of exhilarating clips from her many
acclaimed shows, interspersed with fascinating commentary about her
creative process along with juicy backstage stories. Her innumerable, multiple
award winning shows include, of course, The Producers - her
phenomenal, hilarious collaboration with Mel Brooks, starring Nathan
Lane and Matthew Broderick, and winner
of a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, among them hers for Best
Director and Best Choreographer. And of course, she
won’t neglect her triumphant Royal National Theatre revival
of Oklahoma, with Hugh Jackman in the
breakout role that made him a star!
Her prodigious output also includes her Gershwin-based, Tony
Award winning Crazy For You, The Scottsboro Boys, Contact,
Bullets over Broadway, The Music Man, Showboat, New York, New York, Young
Frankenstein, as well as choreogaphing A
Little Night Music and Harold Prince’s Don
Giovanni for the New York City Opera, the full-length
ballet Double Feature for the New York City Ballet, and directing The
Merry Widow herself for the Metropolitan Opera with Renée
Fleming. Stroman has the distinction of also having worked with
three of our greatest comedians - Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, and Larry
David - as well as Stephen Sondheim, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Liza
Minnelli, Coleman Domingo, Mandy Patinkin, Peter Gallagher and the
iconic team of John Kander and Fred Ebb, etc.
