Winner, Berlinale
Documentary Award, Berlin International Film Festival. An American family watches
the horror of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks unfold—only to be
plunged into a nightmare when they learn their daughter, sister, and mother, Liat
Beinin Atzili, was abducted from her kibbutz, and her husband,
Aviv, was killed. Led by her father, Yehuda, Liat’s family launches an
urgent campaign for her release, navigating grief, fear, and deeply personal
differences in how they process the crisis. As Yehuda appeals to U.S. lawmakers
and calls for dialogue and reconciliation, other family members grapple with
their own trauma, anger, and desire to keep politics at a distance. Holding
Liat is an intimate portrait of a family under unimaginable
strain, capturing their love, resilience, and the emotional toll of violence as
they struggle to hold together in the face of uncertainty. (USA, 2025, 97
min., color, Rated NR, In English/Hebrew with subtitles)
