Wednesday April 29 @ 6:30pm – BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS

122 minutes

Director: Werner Herzog

Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer

"Shoot him again…his soul’s still dancing."

-- Lieutenant Terence McDonagh

Get out your “lucky crack pipe” and be prepared for a hypnotic, explosive performance from Cage, in one of his most celebrated and outrageous performances. Cage plays recently promoted (bad) police lieutenant Terence McDonagh, whose work-related back injury results in a debilitating addiction to painkillers (as well as the reliance on generous portions of heroin). Once McDonagh’s heroin supplies provided by the drug evidence lock-up run dry, he turns to the drug dealers he’s tasked with locking up, while also attempting to solve the murders of five Senegalese immigrants. Bizarre in its devotion to reptilian sidekicks and aquatic metaphors, BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS, which quizzically bears no relationship to Abel Ferrara’s 1992 similarly titled film, contributed an epic team-up between meme-A-listers Cage and Herzog. Evoking past Herzog, Roger Ebert hailed that "Nicolas Cage is as good as anyone since Klaus Kinski at portraying a man whose head is exploding. It's a hypnotic performance.”
