Think of The Westdale as a time machine as we go back to how TV shows were introduced to viewers in the ‘70s in two rare, Fall Preview featurettes, projected in the cinema on spectacular 16mm film!

Garry Marshall comedies such as Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley helped ABC become the No. 1 network in the late ‘70s, as did so-called “Jiggle Shows” such as Three’s Company, Charlie’s Angeles and Battle of the Network Stars.

See these shows and more promoted on these ABC Fall Preview reels: Still The One (1977) shows clips from Charlie’s Angels, Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Three’s Company, Starsky and Hutch and Laverne & Shirley. One more hit was added in 1977: The Love Boat starring Gavin MacLeod. Another series, the controversial comedy Soap, ran four seasons. Also new for ’77 were such bombs as The San Pedro Beach Bums, Carter Country, The Red Foxx Comedy Hour and Operation Petticoat, introducing a young Jamie Lee Curtis. We’re the One (1978) showcases Suzanne Somers in Three’s Company as well Barney Miller, Welcome Back Kotter, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Taxi, Family, Eight is Enough, Fantasy Island and Vegas. Also featured are Donny & Marie and movies and specials of the era. Stick around for the all-star singalong at the end of the featurette featuring Cindy Williams, Ron Howard, Gavin MacLeod, Hal Linden, Ricardo Montalban, Lorne Greene and many others.

Bill Brioux, who has covered television for 40 years for The Canadian Press, The Toronto Sun, TV Guide and others, puts these shows and seasons in perspective in a Q&A session as part of the screening.

There will be retro trivia with prizes from Paramount Plus and Super Channel!
