Shorts 1: Personals

Human seeking other human for some semblance of connection, validity of existence, warmth. Me: your daughter’s funeral crasher; your son’s first love; your new husband’s estranged brother. You: a brave one, forced to grow up too soon; a loved one, who still has time on this earth; a mysterious one, who showed up on my couch this morning. I know you’re out there. Meet me at the Roxie. --- Co-presented by KQED's "Film School Shorts" - Jay Wertzler

Shorts 2: No Regrets

This shorts block, featuring new work from IndieFest alumni and newcomers alike, will make you feel funny. Sometimes funny-ha-ha, sometimes funny-but-please-stop, and sometimes just hungry. But we guarantee this: You won’t leave without seeing something unlike anything you’ve seen before (and we promise that’s not code for a bunch of impenetrable experimental art pieces). Be mesmerized by Juggalos, eavesdrop on an uncomfortable assassination plot, and get the most difficult-to-say last name stuck in your head for days. --- Co-presented by KQED's "Film School Shorts" - Jay Wertzler

Shorts 3: The F Word

Sometimes it’s okay for an indie short to be, you know, funny. Festival favorites from fantastic filmmakers will fill your friends with… ah, F it. Flush your antidepressants and come laugh with (or at) this collection of offbeat shorts with a sense of humor. We’re not trying to disparage your buddy’s 25-minute subtitle-less tribute to the French New Wave or your classmate’s short doc about the brutal realities of the sea cucumber harvest in the Pacific. They're just not as F'ing funny as these films. --- Co-presented by KQED's "Film School Shorts" - Jay Wertzler

Shorts 4: Based on a True Story

From the early works of the Lumière brothers to weekly installments of Kardashian melodrama, the moving image has always had a fascination with “non-fiction-ish” storytelling. This collection of documentary and narrative shorts doesn’t shy away from the realities of our day-to-day lives. Rather, they illuminate the parts we don’t always see, even though they’re right under our noses. --- Co-presented by KQED's "Film School Shorts" - Jay Wertzler

Shorts 5: An Animated World

We’re back with another selection of some of the best new animation from around the globe. New work from fresh voices and alumni alike runs the gamut of style and technique. See the birth of the world, the devil’s minions steal a car, the weight of lost love, and not one, but two dogs just trying to hang out with their owners. It’s an animated world--- we just live in it. --- Co-presented by KQED's "Film School Shorts" - Jay Wertzler

YOUNG BODIES HEAL QUICKLY

Two brothers, ten years apart in age, are on the lam after “accidentally” killing a child. On the road, in a car provided by their protective mother, their interactions with strangers remind them just how far out on a limb they really are. Reaching their estranged father's desolate compound on the seashore, Dad forces the boys on his own yearly trip - to re-enact the Vietnam War in a remote forest. -MK
